In Lybell the Battleship Ivy and the Dreadnaught Wolverine jumped in, their mission the reduction of the undead gate, and so the decimation of the undead colonists.

Emerging from the jump they found themselves on the wrong side of the grav well. They started seeding mines and crawling towards the far side of the system, all the time listening for the enemy. It did not take long for the Vlad class battleships of the enemy to appear - Spindizzying towards their gate, no doubt to form a solid defence. The Ivy and Wolverine had many battles behind them, but their captains were worried. The undead fleet contained more ships, all armoured battleships. The Vlad's were fearsome foes.

The admiral decided that a swift advance through the low gravity channel in the inner system would be the approach, followed by salvoes to destroy the gate and then a hasty retreat.

Both ships spun up the dizzies, and flashed into the channel. Right into the dense minefield that the undead had hidden. The Wolverine was worst hit - severe damage. The Ivy emerged first, right into combined massive fire from the four Vlad battleships. The Ivy's armour collapsed and internal damage took out her ability to fight back.

She ran North, full silent running and a hope of a silent retreat. The undead were having non of it. Beholders illuminated the field, and both the Ivy and the Wolverine sat in full sight. The Vlads sent more salvos, and the Shaman ships seathed in impotent fury as habs vented and engines vapourised.

Both the Ivy and Wolverine now limped towards the jump zone, their only concern was to flee the system - all thoughts of the mission abandoned.

Unfortunately, the only jump zone in reach was behind the Nosferatu line of battleships - towards the gate they had come to destroy. Valiantly both ships limped forwards, and yet more salvoes pummelled them.

And this is how the battle stands. The Ivy is right atop a Vlad class batteship, unable to fight, but fully sensing the wrath about to be unleashed upon her. Her single Spindizzy will take her to the jump point, and luck may see her escape.

The Wolverine is less lucky. Further from salvation she has three Vlads lined up against her. She too will attempt to reach the jump zone, but her captain has little hope.

Battle Report,
Lybell.

I find that report quite puzzling. Why 'dizzy' if you are hidden in the dark (on either side)? Why try to destroy the gate with a mere 2 ships when that would take a minimum of 5 turns to accomplish (and yet would take only 1 turn for the other party to rebuild and thus accomplish very little). And if you must target colonists, why not target the planets directly (especially when your opponent dizzied to their own gate).

And finally, why were you surprised that a minefield was there? A single high armour mine launched along your intended route would of revealed if it was safe to travel that path.

The Captains will be executed!

However, to explain the position better....

The dizzy through the channel was only done when we were far enough into the channel to emerge almost the other side of it. i.e a single move turn and we would be firing salvoes of our own. We had tried the long way round, but when your move rate is 4 frustration can get the better of you.

The channel was not obviously mined as it was an expensive move route - 1 to 2 grav all the way down it. We had not noticed the seeding of the field. The channel brought us out in stricking distance of the target - and we had actually only seen 1 of the Vlads near the gate. We had performed some noisy actions on the other side of the gravwell, and were hoping that Nosferatu had sent some of his fleet to bring the battle to us - especially since he outnumbered us.

Only 2 ships as my empire is overextended, fully committed and every ship lost is an issue.

Why the gate - killing colonists is not longer achieved by bombing planets unless you reduce them to 0. The auto growth of colonies means they can replenish far faster than you can bomb them.

I think that was everything.

Anyway, the Ivy has jumped to safety, and I've yet to check, but I believe the Wolverine, with barely a system left alive, just crawed through the enemy line and is ready to jump as well.

So, nothing ventured nothing gained. Or in this case, lots ventured, nothing gained, but, by luck, nothing lost either.

Nosferatu did try and trap the Ivy with a GravStar but they were a tide too late. Confused

The Wolverine gates with Attack Nano seeping through the armour of the last hab. Oh the glorious safety of the Galactic.

Nicely done.

I like that little emp burst to get rid of my 'mine blossom' around your ship. Also nicely done. I'd of thought my mines would of killed it first but i'll settle for your ship getting 'twice' the feedback from the emp blast.

Speaking of which, emp would be a nice little fighter equalizer if it affected the target for 'two' turns, and the firer for only 1 because of its area of affect.
